Hypnotic trance is a naturally occuring state of deep relaxation that we all achieve each day usually just before going to sleep, and in that just-waking-up stage.  You will have drifted off into a trance many times, perhaps while reading a book, watching a movie or maybe just simply looking out of the window.  In trance the brain waves exist at a certain frequency, and so the unconscious part of the mind is open for change work to take place. The theta brainwave state occurs naturally when we relax completely.

The hypnotherapist cannot make you do anything against your core values and beliefs. The common misconceptions about hypnosis are understandable as most people know about it through stage hypnosis which is a completely different use of trance, purely for entertainment.

It is in this state of deep restlaxation you will be able to make the changes you have decided to make for your own benefit. We will have discussed the presenting issue beforehand to define the changes you wish to make. You are in control at all times and have the ability to come out of trance, back to the normal waking state, at any point.

Few medical conditions contra-indicate the use of hypnosis. However, in some situations it may be necessary to liaise with your GP.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome must first be diagnosed by your GP.

Almost everyone who wishes to be hypnotised can achieve a level of relaxation sufficient to allow the defined changes to take place. Most people really enjoy the refreshing experience of being in a hypnotic trance.
